Synopsis
Sir Robert Chiltern, a respected London politician with an impeccable reputation, leads a seemingly flawless life alongside his virtuous wife, Lady Chiltern. Yet his success is built on a dark secret: in his youth, he sold confidential state information to amass his fortune.
This secret becomes a weapon in the hands of the unscrupulous Mrs Cheveley, who has returned to London. She blackmails Sir Robert: he must support a dubious canal project in Parliament in which she has a financial stake – otherwise she will expose his past. Sir Robert faces an almost impossible situation, for his wife idolises him as the epitome of the ideal, incorruptible man.

Kultur-Schatulle, April 2025

Directed by Robert G. Neumayr, the production is tight, fast-paced (despite the considerable length of Oscar Wilde's play), and full of theatrical invention. [...] Whether you’re a Wilde aficionado or new to his work, this show is a brilliant introduction to his genius – and a night of theatre guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.ViennaCultgram, April 2025
